United Methodist official injured in Haiti

The head of the United Methodist Committee on Relief was in Port-au-Prince when the earthquake hit. He has a leg injury, I’m told, but has survived the tremor. He and two colleagues had not been heard from in the hours following the 7.0 tremor, church officials said. All are now accounted for.

One of my Facebook friends knows Gulley, and updated last night that he’d been found after 55 hours buried under a collapsed building. I haven’t seen a news item yet, so I can’t provide a link.

Sam Dixon, the head of UMCOR, is also safe:

The United Methodist Commission on Relief (UMCOR) is a well-regarded agency. I am certain that Methodist churches around the nation will be collecting funds this Sunday. Please consider making a donation to some organization to help with those in need.

The United Methodist Church reported yesterday that a lay volunteer from Dallas died from injuries suffered in the earthquake. Jean Arnwine, a member of Highland Park UMC, was in Haiti with a medical team for our Volunteers in Mission program.

Earlier reports were incorrect. Rev. Sam Dixon died in Haiti.
