Some guy in Nebraska with way too much time on his hands filed a suit against God. That’s weird. But it gets even weirder. The guy, Ernie Chambers, is a longtime state senator. He’s a Democrat. From Omaha. Chambers’ suit was filed in Sep. 2007. That tidbit is “Thank God we don’t live in Nebraska Exhibit A.” Here’s “Thank God we don’t live in Nebraska Exhibit B:”

The September 2007 lawsuit was thrown out by Douglas County District Court Judge Marion Polk. In October. 2008!
Yes, it took 13 months for the Nebraska court system to determine that a lawsuit against God has no merit and to dismiss the procedings.

Well, let’s not be too hard on the Nebraska court system. I doubt that most state courts have judges examine lawsuits that are filed as a routine matter: It’s generally up to the defendant to make a motion to dismiss a frivolous suit. I suspect that, like the courts in Kentucky, the courts in Nebraska examine their dockets once a year or so, and if nothing has happened in a case, they tag it for dismissal. This one laid there for a year, it appears that God didn’t file an answer, which could have led to a default judgment, but instead resulted in the lawsuit’s dismissal.
