The circus is in town in Lexington, and yesterday I watched the elephants march down Main Street. I remember reading a few years ago that at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City, the Episcopal Diocese conducted a St. Francis’ day service that featured an elephant marching down the center aisle while an acolyte carried a bowl of algae, one supposes as a visual image of our beloved hymn “All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small.”
