The Rev. Frederick J. Eikerenkoetter II aka “Reverend Ike” died Tuesday in Los Angeles, the New York Times reported.

It’s a fascinating article about one of the first prosperity gospel televangelists, though I’d take the audience of 2.5-million claims with a grain of salt…

    I remember an interview with Rev. Ike in the ’70s, when someone asked him about that whole rich man and eye of the needle thing, and his answer was that if you were worried about being too rich, give him your money and you’d have nothing to worry about! You gotta admire an absolute complete con man like him.
