Methodist preacher bangs heads with Alice Cooper

I grew up listening to “Rock Music is Of the Devil” sermons. So this story caught my eye.

By the way, until I watched this Good Morning America segment about a preacher meeting a heavy metal pioneer, I had no idea that Alice Cooper was a Christian.

Cooper has been quoted about his faith, saying: “Drinking beer is easy. Trashing your hotel room is easy. But being a Christian, that’s a tough call. That’s rebellion.”

  1. José Says:

A friend who is a member of Hollywood United Methodist Church says that he has seen Alice Cooper attending worship services there. Cooper is the son of a minister, though there is conflicting information about which denomination. Some sources say Methodist, others say a branch of the Mormons.

I grew up thinking Alice Cooper was a Mormon. An exceptionally weird one, but a Mormon. Maybe I’m wrong. Don’t really care enough to try to find out.

For what it’s worth, Wikipedia takes the Mormon view, noting that the father was in the fundamentalist LDS Church. Heavy metal music is hardly my forte, but it appears that Cooper is among its more interesting practitioners.
