In Virginia, a clothing-optional church
flockwoodThis has to be the strangest story I’ve seen this week.

I’m happy to see folks worship in a church wherever they are, even a nudist colony. There are surely a lot more places where it seems more contradictory to worship the Prince of Peace, the one who preached a gospel of love and humbleness and sacrifice.

Although I’ve never been to a nudist resort (and trust me, no one wants to see me naked), my understanding is that they often have church services. This is the first time I’ve heard of a whole freestanding church at a nudist resort, but why not? I agree with Jose that worship is good, and after all, nudism does not translate into immorality: Most nudist resorts are very straight-laced, I understand.

With nudity unemployment rate would be triple digit by shut down of garment and textile industry. Civilization would be ground zero.

It may help to keep you awake during a boring sermon!

The 1st man and the 1st woman were naked for some period of time with worry free life. But that privilege was lost forever by the 1st sin of disobeying God by Adam and Eve, with introduction of new gene in our body which gives us shyness. Body parts remain under cover ever since Adam and Eve 1st covered their most intimate parts with leaves and bark of trees to face God. This shyness of our humanity is now reality, created not by social pressure, but by God’s commandment, whom we worship. Avoidance of natural instinct of shyness by privilege of freedom of choice is definitely violet God’s commandment again. 2nd Adam Jesus Christ blotted out our spiritual sins by His sacrifice, but did not bring us to our original worry free life. As there are many minds with many moons, by virtue of our born free nature we could interpret social life differently, but the Bible must be standard for evaluating right or wrong in Christian perspective, not by business boom by tourism.

A new “gene” that gives us shyness? Is there any evidence whatsoever, scientific or otherwise, to support that idea, Julian, are you just making this stuff up as you go along?
Children are not born with shyness, as anyone who has ever experienced their children’s romping naked into a gathering of adults, with no embarrassment whatsoever, well knows. Children only become “shy” or “modest” if we teach them to be. There are many cultures in the world in which nudity is considered entirely normal, and whose people can’t understand why we set such a store on clothes. You figure they just didn’t get the gene, Julian, or might it be that people in our society LEARN modesty, rather than its being genetic?
Don’t get me wrong: I’m no nudist (for which the world is thankful), but I suspect that nudists are far better off emotionally than the rest of us, having thrown off at least one segment of bourgeois society, at least for the times they are in the nudist resort. I’m happy to see, Julian, though, that you’re always there to defend society’s norms as God-created, no matter their nature.

I would think marketing bred that shyness into us over the years.
