“In God We Trust” motto unveiled at Capitol Visitors Center
flockwoodThe original design of the new $621 million visitors center on Capitol Hill had a simple policy regarding religion: Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell.
But a group of more than 100 Congressmen objected to the removal of religion from the American story. They raised a racket and now — roughly a year later — changes have finally come.

As the press release notes, “Congressman Forbes is Founder and Chairman of the Congressional Prayer Caucus.”
Let me get this straight. We’re in the midst of the biggest recession since the depression of the ’30s, we have Iraq killing our young soldiers with homemade bombs, and Iran trying to make a homemade atomic bomb. We have double digit unemployment in most states, and are the only industrialized nation in the world without some form of national health insurance. Our high school graduates can barely read, and our college graduates can barely write.
And in response to all this, Rep. Forbes decides that what we REALLY need to do is tinker with the Capitol visitor’s center, and oh, yeah, I forgot, pander to all the evangelical voters in his district. This kind of thing shows why we are in the trouble we’re in: Politicians would rather pander to the ignorant masses about some meaningless topic than deal with the real problems of America.

And in response to all this, we want to leave God out of the Capitol Visitors Center. No wonder we are in the mess we are in.
