The offensive wording says that our tax dollars cannot be used to fix up churches and religious schools. Uh…yeah? Will someone explain why this is a bad thing? It’s neutral, not anti-religious.
I heard the other day that this provision is standard stuff and has been included in previous legislation. So far it has not prohibited individuals from holding prayer meetings or bible studies or anything like that. This sounds like another attempt by the religious right to conjure up a controversy out of nothing.

Hey for once I agree with you, Jose! Huckabee is making something out of nothing…but then again, I thought that of his entire campaign!

I think Huckabee’s problem is that he thinks the US Constitution is anti-religious.

Coincidentally, there is a good explanation of the LDS position in the WaPo.
I think my UMC is more flexible on the subject, meaning that we could partner with the government if the situation and conditions are just so, but it’s certainly difficult to fault anyone for taking an absolute stance by refusing government dollars.
Wouldn’t it be fun to watch a debate between Mr. Otterson and Gov. Huckabee on this subject? Someone ought to challenge Huckabee.

Actually, I’d like to see a debate between Huckabee and Elder Dallin H. Oaks, current member of the Quorum of the Twelve of the LDS, past president of BYU and former member of the Utah Supreme Court. That would be interesting….
