From what I understand, Williamson and three others are recognized as bishops by the RCC, even though the very act of consecration was what brought them instant excommunication. Seems rather odd.

Apparently that’s not entirely clear, Jose. As of the last thing I read, the Vatican hasn’t specifically said whether it recognizes the men as bishops, though it referred to them that way in its announcement.
These guys are obviously right wing creeps for whom holocaust denial is no doubt the least of their sins. Even so, it’s got to give one pause to think that they were excommunicated for wanting to say the mass in Latin (a practice that is now back in fashion in the Roman church), while hundreds of priests around the world were NOT excommunicated (and most not punished at all) for molesting children. Kind of makes you wonder where the Vatican’s priorities really are.
