The Standing Committee of the Diocese of Northwest Texas has voted to withhold consent to the bishop-elect of Northern Michigan, according to Standing Committee President Leon Swift.

Northwest Texas is the 55th standing committee to withhold consent, according to a survey by the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Twenty-seven have voted to give consent, and another 29 (including 8 in Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean) are still undisclosed. Bishop-elect Kevin G. Thew Forrester must receive all 29 remaining votes in order to join the House of Bishops.

Here’s the latest tally:
YES to the bishop-elect: 27
NO to the bishop-elect: 55
PENDING or unannounced: 22
NO COMMENT: 7
TOTAL: 111

Correction: Each of the 110 dioceses plus the Convocation of American Churches in Europe have a standing committee or council of advice vote, for a total of 111. Previous posts had listed the total number of votes as 110. To gain consent, a bishop must receive 56 votes from a total pool of 111, not 110.
