TV news says woman is ‘living in sin’, scoops Fla. church

Florida church leaders were going to tell their congregation that an ex-member was living with a man she wasn’t married to. But she beat them to the punch, telling her story to a Jacksonville TV station instead.

A similar incident in Texas led to a lawsuit, which went all the way to the state’s supreme court. In Texas, at least, ministers are apparently free to publicly discipline or excommunicate churchgoers or former churchgoers. (Here’s a story about the Texas case.)

He/she who is without sin should be first in line to cast the stone.

Well, given that this lady’s story is now national news, one would think the local church would feel less compelled to talk about it. But one never knows why some of these people do what they do.

I am surprised that we have not heard something humerous from bro. John Sparks or something ugly out of Bart.

I was thinking we would probably hear some hilarious from Bro John Sparks, or even something ugly from Bart, I guess Bro John is busy with his writing and I hear Bart is running for mayor in 2010 so I guess he is trying to straighten up his act. Merry Christmas to all.

Yes, where are you, Prester John? We need you!

Hm. Thought I heard my name being called by somebody. Howdy, everybody, long time no see. Well…I personally feel that they ought to accept the woman’s voluntary withdrawal from the church as is, and leave her alone. But somehow it doesn’t seem quite as scandalous as the time I remember from old Muddy Branch of days gone by, when a peacher’s wife got converted in the midst of a hot revival and felt it incumbent upon herself to confess–out loud, mind you, right then and there–how many adulteries she had committed with her husband’s church friends….
