Greater St. Stephen Full Gospel Baptist Church once claimed 20,000 members. It was listed as the biggest church in the Big Easy and one of the nation’s 10 largest congregations. But Hurricane Katrina’s waters damaged the sanctuary and dislocated most of its members. Now, a pre-dawn fire has destroyed the building.
