Not sure I want to believe faux news, I-I-I mean fox news.

May he rest in peace. +

I wish no ill will on anyone, and agree that I hope the archbishop does rest in peace. However, one cannot ignore the shameful history of the Catholic church in Haiti, and in particular its support of the Duvalier regimes. Perhaps if the church had done a bit better job in educating its people, they could have overthrown their corrupt governments and installed a government that would use their money for the benefit of the people rather than stealing it. If this had happened, I suspect that there would be better facilities in place to deal with disasters such as this.

True, Caleb. But the New Testament gives them the perfect justificaiton when Paul writes that “all powers are ordained of God”. That’s a loophole a mile wide.

And overthrowing a corrupt government doesn’t do much when society as a whole is equally corrupt. As Haiti has shown – along with many other countries – corrupt societies will just generate another corrupt government, and on ad infinitum. The vicious circle of corruption is one of the hardest social realities to break down and abolish.
