Southern Baptist minister hears from IRS

BUENA PARK, Calif. (AP) – Southern Baptist pastor Wiley Drake said Wednesday that he is being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service for his endorsement of GOP presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee in a press release written on church stationery.
Under federal tax law, church officials may legally discuss politics, but they cannot endorse candidates or parties in their official capacity as a minister without putting their tax-exempt status at risk. Most who do so receive only a warning.

Time Magazine official slurs “Obama,” blames Edwards

What Mark Halperin said is worse than the “pimped-out” comment that got an MSNBC reporter in deep trouble. And he’s offering a weasily “apology.” In the “apology,” Halperin says he was merely “conveying other people’s words” when he slurred Obama. But the “other person” he supposedly was “channeling” is former presidential candidate John Edwards.

Huckabee: I haven’t ‘alienated’ the Mormon community

Mike Huckabee, the Baptist minister who received 0 percent of the Mormon vote in the Nevada Republican caucus and 0 percent of the Mormon vote in the Utah Republican primary, “says it is ‘unfounded’ for anyone to say he has alienated the Mormon community” the Salt Lake Tribune reported today.
